Composer and Violist Garth Knox and Violinist Diamanda La Berge Dramm were our residency guests during February 1-4.
The residency started off with the rehearsals, performances and recordings of pieces written by Bilkent’s own Composition students Emre Eröz and Arda Turhan. Here, Bilkent Composition students got to hear and discuss over the pieces they wrote specifically for this residency and received a recording of the performances by Garth Knox and Diamanda La Berge Dramm.
Garth Knox and Diamanda La Berge Dramm also gave a seminar with their instruments on the topic of Contemporary String Techniques at the Bilkent Music & Performing Arts Faculty, as well as instrument masterclasses with Bilkent’s Performance students.
The residency ended with a final concert where Garth Knox’s own compositions were performed, joined by violinist and Klasik Keyifler founder Ellen Jewett and cellist and Klasik Keyifler co-director Gökhan Bağcı, together with Turkey’s important young musicians Kerem Tuncer, Dinç Nayan, Yiğit Vural and İdil Bursa.
